MailShadow® for Google Apps™

Safeguard your Outlook email with zero recovery time, zero infrastructure requirements, and one universal client.

Use MailShadow for Google Apps for instantaneous synchronization and recovery of all your Outlook email data after any Exchange email failure, without any investment in recovery infrastructure. Whether you're an individual, small business, or corporation, you can safeguard your Outlook email without breaking the bank.

MailShadowG ZERO Recovery Time

MailShadowG's unique transaction-based architecture protects all of your rich messaging data and gives you nearly instantaneous access to all of your email, attachment, calendar, and contact data even in the event of an internal Exchange or Active Directory system failure. This transaction-based replication scheme means that for each protected Outlook® user, MailShadowG acquires all email, calendar and contact transactions normally stored only in Outlook and Exchange, and then securely transports them to the corresponding user account on the Google service. Each of these transactions then is processed on the live Google Gmail service just as they are on the primary Exchange server, with MailShadowG working to ensure in real time that each replicated mailbox is fully synchronized with its equivalent on Google. MailShadowG handles all the mappings between Exchange and Google for you.

MailShadowG also validates that each transaction is complete and fully formed before transferring it - MailShadowG was explicitly designed not to transfer any corrupted transactions in order to avoid propagation of corrupted data to Google.

The end result is that if your Exchange system is disrupted for any reason, it takes zero time to cut over to the recovery server, which is kept synchronized in real time. In fact, there is NO "cut over" per se: The synchronized data is already there and already accessible in Outlook without any user intervention or action required.

ZERO Infrastructure

MailShadowG is a high-value, low-cost alternative to traditional email synchronization and backup systems. Rather than having to provide your own recovery data center infrastructure, backup hardware, or co-location facilities, you can leverage the legendary Google infrastructure to handle your Outlook data backup. All you need is a Google Gmail account, either standard or premium. MailShadowG offers bi-directional synchronization so that anyone who uses Outlook can synchronize their rich messaging data such as email, calendars and contacts with Gmail and vice versa, eliminating the need for costly infrastructure.

ONE Universal Client

Using a web services model, MailShadowG allows you to synchronize your Outlook client with web-based Google Gmail. This effectively turns Outlook into a universal front end client for different email systems, reducing infrastructure costs dramatically and making email functionality and backup portable and affordable. In addition, MailShadowG provides users off-line access within Outlook to content originally in Gmail, Google Calendar, and contacts.

Unlike IMAP-only approaches, this is a comprehensive solution that addresses email, calendar items, and contacts - everything related to the e-mail environment in a business. And it does so transparently. An Outlook recipient would not even be aware that the messages, calendar items or contacts had been initially generated from Gmail or Google Apps if sent from an Outlook client protected by MailShadowG.

Scales to fit anyone's needs

MailShadowG is inherently scalable, and can meet the needs of anyone who cannot (or will not) tolerate the loss of their email data. Large enterprises, small businesses, and even consumers can safeguard their email, calendar and contacts against server outage and catastrophic failure for an affordable annual fee.

The unique and robust approach of MailShadowG will bring enterprise-class email continuity to everyone, and will remove the laborious and costly aspects of disaster recovery. By simplifying disaster recovery and making it accessible and cost effective for smaller organizations, MailShadowG helps level the playing field for any size business.

Usage

MailShadowG was developed for use by individuals as well as organizations. Here are some usage recommendations that will help you maximize the capabilities of MailShadowG and fully protect your email content.

For Individuals

1. If you are working within a company, you should first get permission to use MailShadowG from your IT administrator to ensure your system is compatible and that you are not violating company policy. Also, you may require administrative rights to the desktop/laptop machine you are using in order to install MailShadowG.
2. If you don't already have one, create a Gmail account. While a paid account will offer more protection and space for your email content, a free Gmail account will work fine.
3. Ensure that the system onto which you are installing MailShadowG is running Windows XP or Vista either natively or on a virtual machine.
4. IMAP needs to be enabled on your free or hosted Gmail account.
5. MailShadowG is compatible with Outlook 2003 and 2007 and Exchange 2003 and 2007.
6. We recommend using MailShadowG with a broadband Internet connection.

For Organizations

1. While MailShadowG will support free Gmail accounts, we encourage organizations to setup a corporate hosted email account for your organization prior to installing MailShadowG. Doing so will ensure that your critical company content will be as protected as possible within your own dedicated, secure domain.
2. If you have short-cut email items using products such as Enterprise Vault, MailShadowG will only synchronize the short-cut component, not the full item.
3. IMAP needs to be enabled on your free or hosted Gmail account.
4. MailShadowG is compatible with Outlook 2003 and 2007 and Exchange 2003 and 2007.
5. We recommend using MailShadowG with a broadband Internet connection.
